Grant's Trail: Father Dickson Cemetery

Crestwood, Missouri

This historically black cemetery lies immediately north of the trail, on the west side of Sappington Road. A plaque along the trail just west of Sappington Road provides a detailed background.

If you're interested in old cemeteries, also be sure to see the historic Sappington Cemetery. Established in 1811, it is located on Watson Road 2/10 of a mile west (toward Crestwood Plaza) from where the trail crosses Watson (see blue pin on the map below).

DIRECTIONS

From the Trail:

Go north on Sappington (the only street crossing between Watson and Big Bend). Cemetery is at northeast corner. There is a small entrance 0.1 mile north of the trail, and the main entrance is 0.2 mile north of the trail.

By Car:

From highway 44, take the Big Bend exit (exit 278). Go east past the gas stations to the first major intersection (Sappington Road) after the gas stations. Go south on Sappington 0.25 mile. Cemetery is on the right.
